Holy Trinity, Chesterton
Our Mission
This church exists:
To Worship God with its whole being, giving him praise and glory for all he is and all he has done.
To Witness to God's love, through the power of his Holy Spirit, that all may hear the Good News of Jesus and have the opportunity to respond.
To Welcome all who come to seek God with us. To be an open, sensitive, welcoming people through whom God's love touches the world around us.
Our Vision
We believe God is calling us and leading us into being a church in which we will:
1. Draw closer to God through worship and prayer.
As we worship and pray together, valuing all ages and providing a variety of opportunities to encounter God, we will experience all that he has in store for us. As we open ourselves to him he will move among us to touch us and draw us deeper into worship and into relationship with him.
2. Grow in commitment to God through nurture.
As we engage with God’s word and with each other, learning and experiencing together what it means to be Christ’s body here, we will grow to maturity in him, both individually and corporately.
3. Go to serve as Christ’s body.
As we seek, as Christ’s body, to live out his servant ministry we will find opportunities to show his compassion and love through our actions, and to be his hands and feet in our community and beyond.
4. Go to witness as God’s people.
As we go to serve, empowered by his Spirit, we will find opportunities to share the good news he has entrusted to us. As we proclaim our faith and share our personal experiences of what God has done in us, for us and through us, he will be revealed among us.
5. Draw others to join us in God’s Church.
As we engage with our community, serving our neighbours, sharing and witnessing to God’s love, we will find opportunities to encourage others to seek God with us, that they too might know his presence and his love, and be drawn by him into his body.
We are called to commit our lives to God. As we do so we will see him keeping his promise to be with us, to equip us by the power of his Spirit and to add miraculously to the work we do in his name, that he may be glorified.
Our Values
Our values tell you a little about what is important to us in our life as God's people here in Chesterton. Taking a look at these will help you see what you can expect of us as part of the church here.
We are a 'C of E' Church. Our place in the Anglican family of churches shows in our worship and our traditions, including the importance of Holy Communion, and we try to express them in a way that we feel is appropriate for today.
We are a Biblical Church. We believe God has told us in the Bible how we can get to know him and live as he wants us to. We take the Bible's teaching seriously and read it regularly so we can get to know it and try to obey it in the way we live.
We are a Praying Church. We believe that to live as God wants and to deepen our relationship with him we must stay in contact with him. Our heavenly Father invites us to spend time with him, to speak and listen to him, and ask for his help for ourselves and others. We therefore provide a variety of opportunities to do this as individuals, in groups and as his family together.
We are a Supernatural Church.
We believe that God is active in this world by his Holy Spirit; that is he actually does things for the good of his people. For instance, we pray for healing and expect to see God bringing wholeness to people's minds, bodies and relationships. We are a Growing Church. We believe that individuals should continue to grow in knowledge, wisdom, love, friendship, etc. and, as we witness to God’s love and share the blessings we have received, that the congregation should grow in number. To help support this growth we encourage groups all around the Chesterton area where we can meet to learn and pray together.
We are a Relaxed Church. We believe that following Jesus is exciting and should be fun, so we do all we can to make sure our services are relaxed, accessible and in touch with the issues people face today. We want people like you to feel welcome and happy with us and we want everyone, whatever age, to feel that there's a place for them with us.
We are a Community Church. Not only do we have a responsibility for the people of the parish that makes up this community, we recognise that we are part of it ourselves. We want to be involved in the life of this community and to play our part in helping to enrich the lives of all who live here with us.
We are a Quality Church. We believe that God and others deserve the very best we can give them. So we try never to be slapdash or tatty but rather to prepare thoroughly and to provide the very best we can in everything we do.
We are a Giving Church. We believe that everything we have comes from God and belongs to him. We therefore give back to him, as the Bible teaches us, so that we can properly resource his church here and help people in need locally, nationally and internationally.
